Celebrating media with Godzilla—plus more giant monsters!
Including Kong, Mothra, Rodan, Giant Robot, Ultraman, and more…
Giant monster legend Godzilla—also known as Gojira—is the kaiju that first appeared in its self-titled 1954 Japanese Toho studios monster movie. That flick was directed and co-written by Ishirō Honda. (Who went on to direct a number of future Godzilla and other giant monster movies.)
In the years since it debut, Godzilla has grown (heh, “grown”) into an international pop icon. The King of Monsters has shown up in lots of media, including dozens of movies made on both sides of the ocean. There have also been TV appearances, comic books, video games, novels, and more.
Godzilla has also crossed paths with a number of other giant monsters and other pop characters. This includes such Toho regular kaiju as Mothra and Rodan. There has also been crossovers with characters from other studios, including Marvel Comics characters (including the Fantastic Four and The Avengers), DC Comics (including Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, among others), plus Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
