‘Supernatural’ Prequel In Development at The CW
Supernatural, the hit CW drama starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, is getting a spinoff revolving around the Winchesters’ parents. The one-hour drama will be produced by Chaos Machine Productions, the production banner of Jensen and his wife Danneel Ackles, through their overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
The Winchesters is executive produced and written by Robbie Thompson, who co-executive produced the original series. Executive producing alongside Thompson are the Ackles. Jensen Ackles told Deadline:
“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
Following the news, Padalecki announced his surprise to hear of the project, that he’s had “no involvement whatsoever,” and that he was “gutted” to learn about the show via Twitter.
Since then, Padalecki Tweeted that he and Ackles have come to an understanding. "[Jensen Ackles] and I had a great talk, as we often do, and things are good," said Padalecki in a pinned Tweet. "The show is early in the process with miles to go. We've traveled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don't stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily."

The new show will be told from the perspective of the narrator, Dean Winchester—with Ackles reprising his role. It’s described as the epic, untold love story of how the Winchester parents met and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.
