New 'Dracula' Film Coming From Director Karyn Kusama

Following their successful retread of The Invisible Man, Blumhouse Productions has been tapped by Universal to set their sites on a new vision for Dracula. The Hollywood Reporter says director Karyn Kusama (Jennifer's Body, Destroyer) will helm the feature, expected to be set in the present day.

After Universal’s failed attempt to mimic the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own Dark Universe line of monster reboots, the studio is taking a filmmaker-driven approach. Other Universal Monster projects in the pipeline include Dark Army with writer/director Paul Feig, Invisible Woman with star and director Elizabeth Banks, and Monster Mash with director Matt Stawski. Also announced is a James Wan-produced horror thriller that may or may not be an update to the Frankenstein story.
