L.A. Banks: ‘Minion: Vampire Huntress Legend’ #1—the beast is coming for her…
She’s searching for the vampire behind a series of brutal murders—only to discover this beast is coming for her next.
There is one woman who is all that stands between us and the eternal night. Here is an account of her legend....
The Vampire Huntress Legend series is a twelve book series written by Leslie Esdaile Banks (1959-2011) under the pen name L.A. Banks. The urban fantasy series centers around twenty-something woman Damali Richards who, by day, is a spoken word artist—and by night, a hunter of vampires and demon-predators.
All Damali ever wanted to do was create music and bring it to the people. Now she is a Spoken Word artist and the top act for Warriors of Light Records. But come nightfall, she hunts vampires and demons—predators that people tend to dismiss as myth or fantasy.
But Damali and her Guardian team cannot afford such delusions, especially now, when a group of rogue vampires have been killing the artists of Warriors of Light and their rival, Blood Music. Strange attacks have also erupted within the club drug-trafficking network and drawn the attention of the police.
These killings are a bit out of the ordinary, even for vampires. No neat puncture marks in the neck to show where the life's blood has been sucked from the body. These bodies have been mutilated beyond recognition, indicating a blood lust and thirst for destruction that surpasses any Damali has encountered before.
Damali soon discovers that behind these brutal murders is the most powerful vampire she has ever met, and this seductive beast is coming for her next. But his unholy intentions have also drawn the focus of other hellish dark forces. Soon Damali finds herself being pulled deeper into the vast and horrifying vampire world.
“In her experience with the movie, Night of the Living Dead (1968), L.A. Banks describes the excitement of seeing a Black man successfully be a hero in a sci-fi/horror film only for that joy to be dashed when the character was killed in the last few minutes of the film. She describes the disbelief that she and her cousins experienced walking out of the movie theater that day. So when she had the opportunity to make people who reminded her of her family and friends be the heroes in a supernatural series and have them not only survive, but thrive in that environment, she jumped at the chance.”—Remembering The Vampire Huntress by Latisha Jones (Dr. Maria DeBlassie)

“Banks give the vamp genre a fresh approach, along with some strong, interesting, and differing characters. Banks put a very intersting spin on some of our most intriguing fables, tales and legends.”—The Fringe
“Blade meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this first of a trilogy about a no-nonsense guerrilla leader of a rock-’n’-roll vampire-killer band. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to make Rolling Stone.”—Kirkus
“If you like vampires, series with deep lore and backstory, violent conflict, suspense, and romance, this series is definitely what you’re looking for. The first two books are suitable for teenagers and young adults as the series doesn’t begin to get steamy until book 3. At this point, I’ve tried to recommend this series to anybody and everybody I know.”—Baskerville Book Reviews
