First new Monster Cereal in 35 years—and its first woman representative!

General Mills expands the Monster Cereal line-up with caramel apple-themed Carmella Creeper…

“Carmella is ready to shake things up at the Monsters’ haunted mansion with her limited-edition cereal featuring caramel-apple-flavored pieces with colored Monster marshmallows.”

The Monster Cereal brand from General Mills is growing to include new monster Carmella Creeper—the first new Monster Cereal mascot in more than 30 years. The cereal promises to be caramel apple-themed. Carmella is the first female representative of the monster cereal world—joining the team with Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry, Fruit Brute, and Yummy Mummy.

“Carmella Creeper is the long-lost cousin of Franken Berry as well as a zombie DJ with an edgy sound who is always the life of the party,” says General Mills. “Complete with a fierce attitude and looks to match, Carmella is ready to shake things up at the Monsters' haunted mansion with her limited-edition cereal featuring caramel-apple-flavored pieces with colored Monster marshmallows.”

General Mills will also be making a new version of their Monster Mash cereal, originally released as part of the cereal’s 50th anniversary. The new Monster Mash will include all the flavors of the different cereals in one box.

The history of the Monster Cereals

The monster cereal brand was launched in the early 70s, inspired by classic horror film monsters.

  • In March 1971, the first two cereals in the line were introduced, the chocolate-flavored Count Chocula and the strawberry-flavored Franken Berry.

  • Boo Berry, the blueberry-flavored cereal, was launched in December 1972.

  • Frute Brute came out in 1974.

  • Fruity Yummy Mummy replaced Frute Brute in 1988.

  • In June 2023, Carmella Creeper joins the monster cereal family.
